Skyline Eco-Adventures, Hawaii

If you want to mix a beach vacation with some action, head to the Hawaiian island of Maui to go zip-lining off the jagged peak of the Haleakala volcano. Skyline Eco-Adventures operate multiple zip-lines in Hawaii, but the Haleakala one is particularly memorably due to its views, plus it was actually the first zip-line tour ever built in the United States.

The volcano dominates the skyline in Maui so it’s fitting that the tour operator runs a 5-line experience here (five interconnecting zip-lines are on site). While you’re at the attraction, which was named a Fodor’s Travel 2016 Most Amazing Zipline in the World, you can take in not just volcano views, but also see eucalyptus forest, and mountains, oceans and valleys.

During your visit, swing on the state’s only pendulum line while reaching speeds of over 45 miles per hour; and get your adrenaline racing as you soar over 90-foot drops. There’s also a swinging bridge in one spot that sits high above a canyon; it’s sure to have you feeling like Indiana Jones.

Tours are available seven days per week, and you can feel good about spent money here as Skyline Eco-Adventures is a member of 1% For The Planet, meaning they donate one percent of their annual company revenue to environmental and charitable non-profits.

WildPlay Niagara, Niagara Falls

Another North American zip-line experience to check out is in the popular holiday destination of Niagara Falls. Once you’re done admiring the view of the iconic waterfalls from one of the hotels near Niagara Falls, or from a boat tour or other vantage point, take yourself off to WildPlay Niagara.

Here, visitors can buy a ticket for the Whirlpool Adventure Course. This suspended-obstacle course includes multiple zip-lines, some of which are 220 feet off the ground. The experience will have you crossing the gorge and whirlpool of Niagara Falls, which gives you another fantastic view of the natural wonder; plus there are three different self-paced adventures to choose from, where you can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. If you want to get your heart racing even more, there’s a bungee jump to try out at the attraction too.

Sky Adventures, Costa Rica

Costa Rica has a diverse range of sights to wow tourists. One of these is a zip-line experience, operated by Sky Adventures. Located in Arenal, in the northern part of Costa Rica, the company’s Sky Trek tour is said to be the most thrilling in the country.

This has a lot to do with its location, as it’s based near Arenal Volcano, which you soar near during your tour. (Note that the volcano used to be one of the most active on the globe, until 2010 when its eruptive cycle paused). In addition, visitors get to take an open-air gondola ride to get up to an observation area, the starting point for the zip-lines, which is 4,100 feet high.

From the viewing platform, you’ll start riding zip-lines and soon fly over canyons, through treetops, and down mountainsides. Look out for native animals in the habitats below as you go through the approximately two-and-a-half-hour long experience. All up there are seven different zip lines, which make up around half a mile of course.

Flight of the Gibbon, Thailand

If you’re taking a trip further away, to Thailand, arrange a visit to the Flight of the Gibbon zip-line operation outside the city of Chiang Mai. Here you will have the chance to see fun-loving, acrobatic gibbons going about their day. The tour operator runs daily excursions which include transfers from the city out to the zip-line facility, plus lunch and a short jungle trek.

In the Flight of the Gibbon experience there are 33 different platforms and over three miles of lines. All of this takes you over lush, green rainforests and jungle canopies. You will get to see where the gibbons call home, and also feel good about the fact that ten percent of the profits of your ticket are donated to gibbon conservation projects.

Adrenaline Adventures, Italy

There’s a memorable zip-lining experience to be found in Europe too, in the stunning Dolomites in Italy. Operating seasonally, Adrenaline Adventures runs a close to two-mile zip-line in the South Tyrol region that provides amazing alpine views.

Some of the zip-lines go at a gentle pace, while others can have you zooming at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. You will end up dangling over 300 feet above the forests of San Vigilio at one point too. Eventually, the network of lines will take you down to the valley floor.
